Next dates: Thursday 1st August, 8th August & 22nd August, 1.15pm – 2.45pm

This workshop requires you to do some knitting homework.  We will demonstrate the techniques and you will be able to practice them before putting them into action on your own socks.  You will then be required to continue with the technique at home, ready to tackle the next stage at the next lesson.  There is a 2 week gap between the 2nd and 3rd lesson.

A ball of sock knitting yarn (King Cole Zig Zag, Stylecraft Head Over Heels or James Brett Funny Feetz), circular needles and double pointed needles are included in the price.  We also have some ‘practice socks’ for you to hone your skills on.

Please note: this is not a learn to knit class but is designed for those who already know how to knit – knowledge of how to cast on and off, do a knit and purl stitch and read a pattern are essential.

What we will cover:

Lesson 1:

Introduction to the circular needle!  Casting on methods, rib, doing the leg and heel flap.

Homework: to knit the ‘leg’ part of the sock and the gusset, ready for lesson 2 …

Lesson 2:

Heel techniques – we will cover the common heel method.  Working the heel flap, turning the heel and picking up stitches and then working in the round again.

Homework: to knit the foot part of the sock, ready for lesson 3 …

Lesson 3:

There are a few different ways to finish off toes and we’ll look at the most popular technique suitable for cuff-down socks so you can give your socks a professional finish and wear them with pride.

Homework: to wear your socks!
